The current décor trend is Tropicana. At the Design week in Chelsea this year, the main colour on show was green, in shades of emerald, turquoise and lime. It is a bold look, and as with many interior design styles, can be quite difficult to achieve. It is the opposite of the parred back Scandi trend. Its not about making your room feel like a Brazilian rain forest but actually all about giving your home a welcome boost of colour, and in good taste. Shoots in current magazines and the colour supplements show rooms covered in palm leaves, fuchsia print fabrics and gold accessories everywhere, but you can be much more subtle. After all it is your home and you have to feel calm and restful in it. Its about creating a light and airy feel. As with all designs its also about getting it right.

The main retailers, such as The Conran Shop, Barker and Stonehouse, IKEA and Next all have this look in store at the moment, from printed flamingo cushions, pineapple lampstands and leafy lamp shades. Palm leafed fabrics and wallpapers are available from all the usual retailers too to complete the look. One feature wall of palm leaves, plants or humming birds will give a lush feeling without being garish. Don’t forget that the use of real indoor tropical plants such as palms, ferns or orchids can add that finishing touch.
